Review: OpenCart 1.4 Template Design Cookbook

OpenCart 1.4 Template Design Cookbook, the book is focusing how to customize theme design and what are the tools for using it, base on open cart default theme.

The author stated: Why do we need to customize theme design? Because some themes, especially free themes did not match our design style.

This book gives you an idea how to customize theme design to be attractive, modern and new techniques for your open cart websites. The book is easy to read and follow step by step.

Some missing telling you at the beginning, but you will find it later on the topics.

The author started by showing how to install open cart with “XAMPP”, if you familiar with WAMP, you can install it as well.

He has introduced different tools for customize the theme design for example; “GIMP” and “Firebug” etc.

He also described the latest theme design trends, after that he gave you the details how to customized the theme in administrator panel, changing your shop setting, modify the setting of your store, creating categories, adding product categories, create a new theme base on CSS styles and module adjustment etc.

He continued by giving you the details in header structure, and also content adding jQuery, and much more..

I do not think that this book is for beginner. You have to know basics on web design such as HTML & CSS styles, and familiar or knowledge of install the software with WAMP, my SQL and phpmyadmin and also Photoshop and some of the Web Development Tools.

Base on my situation-Window & Wamp user, I would skip the installing and the software tools. The rest, he gave me more ideas on how to customize the theme design. I can do it as quick and add some modern techniques on the default theme as well.

On the other hand, this book is specific software as “Open Source”, which they are “FREE”; for example: Linux, GIMP, firebug, Xampp etc. In case you are familiar with or knowledgeable on how to install the open cart in your own system. It is no problem to read this book and get more knowledge on how to customize the theme design in your open cart websites.
